About EARTH Project

About

“Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

- Gro Harlem Brundtland

The EU logistics sector, which includes the transport and supply chain industries, is among the world's largest and most developed. The industry is fast-growing and continuously adapting to new technologies and global business practices. The EU logistics sector performs well globally, with the top largest logistics service providers all based in Europe and six EU Member States among the top-10 global logistics performers.

Our project partners, who are deeply involved in logistics, innovation management, and higher education, are committed to teaching logistics students at the Masters level and upskilling managers employed in logistics companies to manage the digital innovation process to prioritise the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to address some of the world's most pressing challenges.

EARTH will benefit from the experience gained by many of the partners on the Innovating Digitally project which examined the service innovation process of hundreds of companies. This experience will be used to help Masters students and managers learn how to tackle complex problems and develop innovative solutions while prioritising sustainability and the SDGs. The project will introduce them to sustainable practices, such as eco-friendly transportation, energy efficiency, sustainable procurement, smart logistics, employee training, and partnerships, and demonstrate the pathways to and benefits of adopting these practices.

In order to achieve our aims we will create:

1

A set of real-life case studies (WP2)

Showcasing good practices and innovations in managing the innovation process and prioritising sustainability and the SDGs in the logistics industry, providing valuable insights and practical examples for logistics students and managers.

2

A comprehensive Educational Framework and Open Education Resources (WP3)

Incorporate SDGs and sustainability into innovation management for the logistics industry, offering a structured approach to advance sustainability goals.

3

An online benchmarking tool (WP4)

Allows logistics companies to evaluate their innovation process digitalization concerning SDGs, identify improvement areas, and monitor progress. The tool can also engage students as analysts and change agents, proposing digital enhancements in the innovation process while highlighting their sustainability contributions
