About EARTH Project

About

“Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

- Gro Harlem Brundtland

Europe’s logistics and transport sector ranks among the most advanced globally—powered by cutting-edge digitalisation, strong infrastructure, and dynamic supply chain innovation. With top global logistics service providers headquartered in Europe and six EU countries listed among the world’s top ten performers, the sector is ideally positioned to lead the transition toward sustainable, responsible logistics.

Building Skills for
Sustainable Logistics Innovation

The EARTH Project brings together expert partners from logistics, innovation management, and higher education to drive a future-ready transformation of the logistics sector. Our mission is to equip Master’s-level logistics students and current industry managers with the digital innovation skills needed to prioritise the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By doing so, we help them respond effectively to global sustainability challenges while advancing innovation in logistics operations.

Learning from Industry and Research Experience

The project builds on valuable insights gained from the Innovating Digitally project, which analysed the innovation practices of hundreds of companies. This foundation enables us to teach logistics students and professionals how to navigate complex problem-solving, apply innovation management principles, and embed sustainability into every stage of the logistics value chain. Participants will explore key practices such as low-emission transport, energy-efficient warehousing, sustainable procurement, smart supply chains, workforce training, and responsible partnerships—developing a toolkit for leading sustainable change in logistics.

Our Main Activities

1

Real-world case studies on sustainable logistics innovation (WP2)

Highlighting best practices in digital innovation and sustainability integration across logistics operations, these case studies demonstrate how logistics companies align their innovation processes with SDG targets and offer concrete learning material for students and professionals in the field.

2

Educational Framework & Open Educational Resources for logistics education (WP3)

A curated suite of teaching tools and digital resources that embed the SDGs into logistics innovation management education—empowering educators to deliver future-proof, sustainability-focused training in logistics and transport management.

3

Online Benchmarking Tool for sustainable innovation processes (WP4)

A digital self-assessment platform that allows logistics companies and learners to evaluate the digitalisation of their innovation processes in relation to the SDGs. The tool helps identify improvement areas, benchmark progress, and involve students as change agents for greener logistics transformation.
